Biography
Elizabeth Winnel is a Canadian-born artist whose work explores the tension between beauty, desire, and decay. Initially recognized for her bold, expressive paintings of lips that examined identity and self-representation, her practice has evolved into a series of lush still life paintings that use fruit as a metaphor for the human body. Both alluring and unsettling, these works reflect on the fragility of perfection and the inevitability of transformation, inviting viewers to consider the ways in which beauty persists amid change and impermanence.
Winnel has exhibited her work in more than one hundred solo and group exhibitions across the United States and internationally, including shows in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Atlanta, Nashville, London, Berlin, and Toronto. Her paintings have garnered attention from major publications such as Blouin Art Info, Beautiful Bizarre, Basic Magazine, Juxtapoz, Savannah Magazine, Paprika Southern, and VH1. She has also collaborated on significant projects with globally recognized enterprises including VH1 and Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
A graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design, Winnel holds an M.F.A. in Painting (2013) and a B.F.A. in Illustration (2008), following her Fine Arts studies at Fanshawe College in Ontario. In addition to her studio practice, she has served as Professor of Painting at SCAD and currently works as a curator at Artrepreneur.
